Traveling with your dog in New Brunswick

    New Brunswick
    Welcoming to My Kind
    By

Being different and looking different than most travelers, I wasn’t sure how I would be received in New Brunswick. I didn’t even know if they would let me in to the country let alone the hotels. It was with a good deal of trepidation that I undertook my journey and my assignment.

I drove up from Rhode Island with my best friend and business partner, Caroline. Our assignment was to check out the many sights, restaurants and attractions in order to develop itineraries for the travel planner. We work very well together. I am a natural relationship builder and she’s all over the details.

The drive up was ideal. I loved the reassuring feeling of Caroline’s hand on my back coupled with the feeling of the wind from the open window on my face. We stopped along the way a couple of times in Maine to have a little walk, stretch, and a drink.

When we got to the border, the customs agent asked me and my best friend for our papers. Mine were carefully packed in an envelope. We handed the agent a passport and my *certificate.

“Aren’t you a pretty little lady,” the customs agent said. “Would you like a little snack? What’s your name?” Not just like… I would LOVE a treat I thought, but waited politely until the agent handed the treat to Caroline who passed it to me. “Her name is Autumn. Thank you very much for the snack,” said Caroline. It came!!! A piece of jerky!!! A delectable, chewy slice of heaven!!!

And that was just the beginning. I stayed in major hotel chains like Rodd Miramichi River and the Delta Fredericton. I even rode on an elevator for the first time. At the B&B’s, I got special breakfasts and a lot more delicious snacks.

I would go back to New Brunswick any time. They made me feel so welcome and included that I almost forgot about my foxy face and the fact that I’m, not your typical traveler! So to all of you out there who are like me have no fear – New Brunswicker’s love our kind.

What’s my kind you ask? I am Shetland Sheepdog!

I heard my partner explaining that properties accepting my kind have 'Pets Welcome' in the Features section on the accommodation listing within this website.

*My certificate was a verification of my up-to-date rabies vaccination along with a letter from my vet just to be on the safe side.

Autumn the dog reminds everyone traveling with pets to beware of the health dangers of leaving an animal unattended in a vehicle in the summer heat.

In case of an emergency, you will find veterinarians, clinics and SPCA shelters throughout New Brunswick.
