    History & Culture

So much CHARACTER (it's hard to be humble)

A cross-cultural adventure story began very early in the land that would eventually become New Brunswick. When Samuel de Champlain and other Europeans explored our coastline in the early 1600s, they were met by Aboriginal peoples who played an important role in their survival during the first severe winters.

Be it First Nations, Acadian, Loyalist, Brayon, Scottish, Irish or the many others, today our ethnically, religiously and linguistically diverse cultural mosaic is on display everywhere. From the kitchen parties to the street festivals, you'll find traditional fiddle music, hearty cuisine and foot-stomping joie de vivre (love of life). From sophisticated urban flair to charming country villages along extraordinary seasides, New Brunswickers are proud to welcome any visitor with a taste for past, present and future adventures.
