Mi’kmaq Artisan

New Brunswick’s First Nations people understand and interpret the true soul of the province. And Johnny McBain’s works are no exception.  Aboriginal culture and tradition are the foundations of this artisan’s masterpieces. Johnny produces traditional Mi’kmaq dream-catchers and cradle boards, but he is best known for his powwow drums which sell all over North America.  His nickname is “Crow” because the birds are known to be “talkers”, so he’s happy to have you drop to chat about his proud heritage.

Judy Tait, who started her career in textiles, now produces some of the best pottery in eastern New Brunswick. Nestled on the Bay of Fundy, Judy is inspired by her surroundings, the local community and the unique clay that is naturally produced here.  It’s one thing to acquire a beautifully handcrafted item, it’s quite another to learn about the craft and the inspiration from the talented artisan who produced it.
