Track the fall leaves as they turn from green to fiery orange and red with our leaf peeping tour map.

Do YOU know why leaves change colour?

How exactly does a leaf turn “lipstick red” and “pumpkin orange”? The secret lies in the weather. Just like us, trees need rest. Shorter days and cooler nights mean it’s time for trees to stop putting all that hard work into photosynthesis (using sunlight to feed itself) and start preparing for a long winter’s rest.

Carotenoids and anthocyanins, the same pigments that make carrots orange and apples red, rise to the surface of the leaves once the green chlorophyll begins to fade away with the sunlight – one last glorious show before the trees say au revoir for the winter.
