A Downtown Bed & Breakfast

A Spirit of Openness

"Welcome to my home," says Linda Glencross, as she greets you at the door at 101 Alma Street in Moncton. That sincere greeting, along with a hearty handshake, and such a warm-hearted smile, makes you feel as if you're stepping into your host's personality as well as her 100 (plus)-year-old home. This historic B&B is as solid as the welcome you've just received.

Linda Glencross has been training to run a Bed & Breakfast all her life. "Living in the suburbs of Montreal during Expo '67, we had more than 80 guests in our home over a span of just eight weeks. In the late 1990s, when I decided to escape the rat race of Vancouver, running a Bed & Breakfast seemed like a perfect idea."

Glencross moved to this lovely limestone-quarried house in New Brunswick for a more laid-back lifestyle. “I purchased this place in June of 2000 and jumped in with both feet and didn’t envision the amount of work necessary to make guests feel comfortable and at home. Over the years I’ve learned that having a sense of humour helps me enjoy what I do."

Glencross has become the consummate B&B host. She and her well-mannered pets — Lucy Patricia, the Golden Retriever and Murphy the Roads Scholar, a ginger cat — make guests feel right at home. Mornings are when the aromas of good, rich coffee and home-cooked breakfasts that include ‘French toast worth getting up for’ start wafting up the stairway.

A Downtown Bed and Breakfast has a common space known as the Sunroom, as well as four ultra-comfortable rooms and a 800-square-foot loft. "Each is charming and special, just like me after I've had my morning coffee," says Linda, with an especially captivating grin.
