The Sea Captain and His Lighthouse

Learn all about Acadian fishing culture from a living legend. Singer, sea captain and storyteller Donat Lacroix is a staple figure of Acadia’s rich heritage, and he’s here to tell you all about it. Donat unveils the mystery of coastal fishing culture with captivating stories, made even more authentic in the surroundings of the Old Portage Lighthouse and the Acadian town of Shippagan. As he weaves tales of fishermen and lighthouse keepers you’ll be learning how to tie fishermen’s knots, repair fishing nets, and build a lobster trap. Your experience also takes you inside the lighthouse, where Donat regales you with lighthouse legends and lore. A tour of the exhibit gives even deeper meaning to coastal heritage, which you will soon learn moves to the rhythm of the sea.
