The Festival acadien de Caraquet, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012, is not only one of the top Acadian cultural events of the year, but it is also one of the largest tourist attractions in the Atlantic provinces. Festival-goers converge by the thousands in Caraquet to celebrate the vitality of Acadian culture. It has even become one of the American Bus Association’s Top 100 Events in North America about 15 times!
Each year, for the 2-week duration of the festival, approximately 400 artists grace the stage to perform a variety of acts to the 100,000 people in attendance. Cabaret shows, Belles Soirées (pop music, classical sounds, and jazz nights), main-stage concerts, and méchant partys (madcap parties) are just a taste of the festivities! Discover the Chapeau à nos artistes émergents (emerging artists series), the Festival acadien de poésie (Acadian poetry festival), the Gala de la chanson de Caraquet (Caraquet song gala), and popular and traditional activities such as fireworks and the blessing of the fleet. Experience the Tintamarre Workshops, where you can create a costume, mask, hat, or other carnival accessory to help you celebrate on August 15 at the renowned Tintamarre noisemaking parade, the largest (and loudest!) popular gathering in Acadie!
From August 1 to 15 of each year, the Festival acadien de Caraquet becomes the showcase for Acadian culture, a culture open to the international Francophonie. Come be part of the biggest musical celebration in Acadie!
