Over 240 species of birds make the island their home. From spring nesting to fall migration to winter rarities, birdwatchers can reach for their binoculars with delight, following John James Audubon's footsteps and watching landbirds, shorebirds and seabirds in the same day.
We have more whales than anywhere else in New Brunswick. It’s the best whale-watching in the area. Sightings of these magnificent creatures include the rare right whale, finback and humpback whales.
Each island community has a busy fishermen's wharf to explore, and you will also find secluded beaches for quiet morning walks, many hiking trails and majestic cliffs that drop off to meet the sea.
The island’s 33-km (18-mi.) highway follows the sea from village to village, from one breathtaking scene to the next. You can also take the short ferry ride to White Head Island and continue your adventure there!
A 90-minute ferry trip from Blacks Harbour, the M.S. Grand Manan V or the M.V. Grand Manan Adventure ferries will bring you to Grand Manan Island and numerous other small islands. Passengers wishing to take their vehicle on the ferry from the mainland should arrive at least 45 minutes prior to departure. Foot passengers should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to departure.
