It's no surprise to find that the beautiful St. John River Valley is home to a number of well-known arts and artisans, as well as an art gallery of international stature. Visit the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, the Andrew and Laura McCain Gallery and the 26 larger-than-life historical murals in Sussex.
Passion, innovation and creativity - our artisan community has it all. You'll find beautiful examples of their work at craft fairs, farmers markets and gift shops up and down the valley. From wooden carvings to textiles, candles and jewelery, you're sure to find something extraordinary.
Our covered bridges are more than scenic snapshots. They represent the skill of our forefathers. Consider the engineering behind The Longest Covered Bridge in the World in Hartland. Built in 1899, it spans 390 m (1,283 ft.)! Or walk over water on a footbridge at Hampton.
Explore the spiritual heritage of our founders at magnificent Christ Church Cathedral, a ''Best of River Valley'' Attraction with a spire towering almost 61 m (200 ft.) above the skyline. The Cathedral of Immaculate Conception built in 1927, can accommodate 1,250 persons.
With such a famously fertile river valley, it makes sense that our farmers markets are phenomenal including the W.W. Boyce Farmers Market in Fredericton, named one of the best in Canada.
The avid gardeners of the River Valley Scenic Drive have a reputation to keep up and they seem to outdo themselves every year. If you love gardens, you must visit the New Brunswick Botanical Garden to see what true pros can do. It's a floral tour de force. Visit, admire, envy and learn something new.
We're really big on heritage in the valley. You can visit 7 National and 9 Provincial Heritage sites, from the Hon. Charles Connell House to the McAdam Railway Station to the Historic Garrison District. (History is action-packed here!)
Bet you thought lighthouses were only for ocean shores! The mighty St. John River actually has two. (That's how special our beloved river is…) You'll find the tallest of the two at Oak Point while the other sits at Bayswater.
You'll find a museum around every corner. Museums dedicated to school years, agriculture, antique autos and a railroad interpretation centre. Museums for the armed forces, the 8th Hussars and the Loyalists. And, of course, The Potato Museum.
See nature at work at the Grand Falls Gorge where the waterfall crashes 70 m (130 ft.) down, carving out the 1.5 km (one mi.) gorge. Explore a good selection of our natural flora and fauna at Sir Douglas Hazen Park. And take a breather on three new forest trails at New Maryland Centre - Wildwood Park.
Springtime in New Brunswick means sugaring-off time and there's no activity that heralds spring better than being in the woods at a sugar camp. Stamp around in the snow, watch the sap run, see how it's made, then sample some fresh maple syrup for yourself.
If "the play's the thing" for you, then The Playhouse is your place. A gift from publishing baron Lord Beaverbrook, this wonderful stage features performances by its professional theatre company, as well as dance and musical shows.
Fredericton's Kingswood Park is full of indoor fun. Laser Tag, 30 bowling lanes, a games room, playclimber with tunnels and slides and special areas for the wee kids. Hartt Island R.V. Resort keeps everyone happy with a driving range, waterslides, mini-golf and basketball.
Raise a glass to the Fredericton Wine & Food Fest. A non-profit fundraiser, it features tastings of dozens of wines, as well as gourmet food. If cider is your drink, visit Gagetown Cider Company, owner of New Brunswick's largest apple orchard.
