Live Bait Theatre tells entertaining, thought-provoking stories with an emphasis on new Canadian scripts and plays that are new to the central Maritime region. Live Bait is committed to contributing to the canon of Canadian theatre by nurturing new plays and visionary artists.
The company was founded in 1988 by Mount Allison graduates Randy White, Ann Rowley, Ross Murray, Karen Valanne and Charlie Rhindress. The artistic leadership eventually went to Charlie and Karen, who developed Live Bait into a theatre company with a reputation for excellence, for fostering new works, developing regional theatre artists, and strong community involvement.
Over the years, the company has nurtured playwrights, actors, directors and designers from the Atlantic region, while also introducing audiences to plays from elsewhere in Canada and the international repertoire. Live Bait’s history of producing original and established plays, musicals and revues has significantly enhanced the cultural life of this central maritime region.
