Village of Charlo

Nestled on the shores of Chaleur Bay, One of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World, Charlo is one of the oldest settlements in Restigouche County. Incorporated in 1966, the village presently has a mixed population of 1,324 English- and French-speaking inhabitants.

With its kilometres/miles of beaches, Charlo is the place to be for a seashore vacation. Build sandcastles, swim, windsurf, kite surf, canoe or try a variety of other aquatic activities in the bay waters. For those who love the beauty of natural green spaces, flowing rivers and lazy lagoons, try some superior birdwatching. Lace-up your hiking boots or bring your bike and explore Charlo’s 9-km (5.6-mi.) hiking/biking trail.

Campers will find spacious and fully serviced campsites. Bonfires on the beach under a starry sky is a favourite pastime here; so bring the marshmallows and enjoy!

While here, stop for a visit at the Salmonid Enhancement Centre, a fish hatchery where you will find out how baby salmon are hatched and released into rivers for the preservation of the species.

Charlo is well connected, with its full-service, Regional Airport. Open year-round, its runway can accommodate both small and large aircraft and refueling as well, with AV gas and jet-fuel service.

In winter Charlo is known as the Cross-Country Ski Capital. Its local cross-country ski club keeps groomed trails available for beginners and competitive skiers alike, and on the riverside, a fully equipped cottage can be rented for group events, or for group accommodation, with its 14 bed capacity.

Charlo, a small village with big-city amenities!
