Beaubears Island is the only known undisturbed archeological site associated with the 19th century wooden shipbuilding industry in New Brunswick. The island and surrounding areas had been used in the past by the Mi'kmaq people for camping and ceremonial purposes, and nearby Wilsons Point was a refuge for Acadians fleeing deportation in the mid-1750s.
Located in the mighty Miramichi River, Beaubears Island puts you at the heart of Miramichi. Here you can enjoy world-class salmon fishing or get an adrenaline rush on New Brunswick’s longest zip line. Pair your outdoor adventures with some culture and history by attending Canada’s Irish Festival on the Miramichi and/or going on the Headless Nun Tour.
Located on the world-famous salmon fishing river of the same name, the city of Miramichi is known for its hospitality and knack for storytelling. A place where history, diverse cultures, and the great outdoors converge, the city and the surrounding region will introduce you to the heritage of its people.
